2018 ProMaster 1500 Tall Van

I have done regular maintenance on the vehicle at RAM dealerships and Firestone shops since I bought it in 2002. I would keep it, but I’ve settled into a city and it’s not practical anymore.
The van has 87,607 miles on it and is located in Annapolis, MD.
Truth in advertising
I’m not gonna lie — this is a handyman’s dream — but the essentials are installed and what it needs are mechanical repairs and finish carpentry.
The transmission is, well, not transmitting. It pooped out on me in November and, as I can’t do the van life thing again for a while, I don’t want to invest in fixing it. That’s the biggest reason I’m selling it at this moment.

The exterior is in good condition. There are no noticeable dents and no rusting. There have been paint touch-ups.
There’s a NOCO GCP2 15 Amp AC Port Plug, 125 Volt Power Inlet Socket, and Waterproof Electrical Outlet Receptacle Box with Dual 18-Inch Integrated Outdoor Extension Cord mounted behind the driver’s door, entering the van at the power hub (see the cabinet section).
Tires are in good condition – Firestone Transforce HT2 BL LT225/75R16 E115R I bought all of them while I owned the vehicle and had regular balance and rotation. There is a full-size spare.
New brakes August 2024, new rotors August 2024.
Floor, ceiling & attic - click picture for larger view
The ceiling is covered with KILMAT 80 mil 36 sqft Car Sound Deadening Mat and insulated with 3M Thinsulate Acoustic/Thermal Insulation SM600L, covered with painted marine-grade 1/4″ ply. The insulation is affixed with 3M Spray 90 and There are 6” x ½” plywood tethers screwed to the frame. These are intended to hold up ceiling panels but, as you can see, I didn’t get to installing anything. For the ceiling, the world is your oyster!

The bed is a queen-sized Ikea firm mattress, used for maybe 200 nights, in excellent condition, with a 3” memory foam topper and mattress pad. It’s supported by a 2×4 frame that’s tied into the van framing, with a solid lumber cherry facing the living space. Underneath, it’s supported by a box that contains the fridge and a sliding shelf, originally used for a computer printer.
The mattress is supported on open slats which are tied into the frame. The open nature of the design allows air flow to keep the mattress from mildewing.

Under the bed, the garage has ½” marine-grade plywood shelves over the wheel wells and a housing for the fridge, which is accessible from the living area.
The walls and well are covered with KILMAT 80 mil 36 sqft Car Sound Deadening Mat and insulated with 3M Thinsulate Acoustic/Thermal Insulation SM600L, covered with painted marine-grade 1/4″ ply.
See the floor and wall construction section for specifics on those. The shelf gear nets are made of heavy cotton duck with ball fringe. Because if you’re not having fun you’re not doing it right.

The doors are covered with KILMAT 80 mil 36 sqft Car Sound Deadening Mat and insulated with 3M Thinsulate Acoustic/Thermal Insulation SM600L, covered with painted marine-grade 1/4″ ply.
The frames are covered in cork, which insulates and makes it a little nicer if you bump yourself on the door at night. It also looks kinda cool.
There’s a cable to convert power from an RV plug to the Edison input needed for this van’s power, but I never had to use it.
Living Space - little drawer unit
There’s a small drawer unit just inside the sliding door a cork top, and whose drawers drawers have draw catches. This unit is attached with thumb screws into threaded inserts in the deck, so it can be removed for cleaning and having full access to the sliding door.
Living Space - kitchen cabinets
The kitchen cabinet is made with three Ikea drawer units: one Ikea Alex 4-drawer unit and two Ikea Alex 5-drawer units. Those cabinets are topped with a shop-made three-drawer marine-grade plywood unit and a solid cherry counter top.
On the bed-side is a microwave drawer on heavy-duty drawer ball-bearing glides. Fits Commercial Chef 0.6 Cubic Foot Microwave. There’s a plug in the back of the cabinet to plug into the outside power source via the outlet behind the driver’s side door.
Under the microwave drawer is space for a honey bucket and a bag of kitty litter. I use a heavy-duty liner and Feline Pine kitty litter – makes your pee smell like the forest.
Seven of the drawers have marine-grade 48mm Spring Loaded Bar Latches from Custom Service Hardware. The rest of the drawers have standard kitchen friction catches.
On the driver’s side of the cabinet is a charging station. The seven-outlet surge protector plugs into the wall outlet and the drawers are lined with velcro. Add velcro to your devices and they’ll stay in the drawers as you drive.
Under the charging station there’s the perfect little garbage can which – bonus! – you can reach from the driver’s seat. Super easy to toss your lunch trash.
Living Space - fridge and honey bucket
Under the bed, the cooler-style fridge lives in its own little house, with a storage drawer above it. The fridge housing doubles as bed support. The fridge is a 12 volt Domende 54qt Car Refrigerator Portable Freezer.
The fridge has no smells or stains and, when not in use, is stored with the lid open a crack & boxes of baking soda in it.
The honey bucket lives in a cubby in the cabinets, and there’s more on that in the Cabinets tabl.
Living Space - passenger seat
The passenger seat swivels completely around, and there’s a little storage/step stool right behind it to give your feet a place to rest. I used this as my office, with my monitor mounted to the top of the drawers.

The drapes are light-weight cotton that tuck away easily, with hems cut to match the contour of the foot stool.

The cockpit is in good condition. There is, of course, some wear on the floor and seats but nothing extreme. There’s a phone holder for the driver. The green holder is built for a box of tissues, a sunglasses case, some notebooks, and a handful of drinks cans. There’s one oversized holder for a big ol’ coffee cup.

The two things that don’t work are the stereo volume control on the steering wheel and the 12V charger.
There’s a Kala Ukulele sticker on the globe box because camper vans and ukuleles go together like ra ma la ma la ma ka dinga kading a dong.
